Environmental Ethics for Rafting

Environmental responsibility is an ethic everyone at Ouzel Outfitters lives and teaches.

Egret Flying

We have a long standing commitment to maintain the pristine and beautiful places where we operate, and endeavor to teach each and every one of our guests the same appreciation of these places.

  • Leave-No-Trace:  Leave-No-Trace ethics are practiced on all of our trips.   We are conscious of the impact our use has on the areas we visit.
  • Going Beyond:  We pack our ashes from the fire, human waste, micro-trash and anything we find left behind by others. It's not uncommon for an old tire to be strapped to the front of one of our equipment rafts.  We recycle at every opportunity and constantly strive to reduce the amount of disposable goods on our trips. Every river camp is equipped with bags or boxes dedicated to recycling and our office, warehouse and each of our outposts have a recycling center.
  • Stewardship:  We are aware of current issues and provide insight and education to other's we encounter along the river as well as provide comments and suggestions to land managers.
  • Education: With our guests' help, we avoid damaging fragile vegetation and soils, steer clear of disturbing wildlife and make every effort to protect cultural resources. We reduce the number of "disposable" water bottles brought on our trips by providing overnight customers with the gift of a quality water bottle.   desert flowers
  • Donations: Through donations and financial contributions, we support the work of organizations such as the Nature Conservancy, High Desert Museum, Central Oregon Environmental Center, Oregon Natural Desert Association, River Network and others. Supporting the work o f these groups allows us to contribute to a healthy and sustainable environment, without which we would not be able to offer magnificent and memorable outdoor experiences.
